Urinary Incontinence

Incontinence, or loss of bladder control, is a problem that affects many women. In fact, severe urine leakage affects one in ten women. Sometimes you cough, laugh or even just hear the sound of running water, and it happens. It is not a serious medical problem, but it is a serious quality of life issue for many women. Don’t let it put your life on hold. Dallas Walnut Hill OBGYN can help.

Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Treatment for urinary incontinence depends on the type of incontinence, its severity and the underlying cause. To understand your condition, we are able to offer diagnostic cystometric studies among other options. Treatment range from pessary fitting, to biofeedback, to surgical bladder lifts and slings. A combination of treatments may be needed. Your doctor is going to suggest the least invasive treatments first and move to other options as needed.

ThermiVa Non-surgical Vaginal Rejuvenation

ThermiVa is a non-surgical procedure with the power to give women back control of their bodies. We are excited to provide Dallas-area women the option to rejuvenate their vaginal and labial area. Relaxation of the vaginal muscles is a common side effect of childbirth, as well as being a natural aspect of aging. Using the ingenious technology of ThermiVa’s temperature-controlled radiofrequency system, Walnut Hill’s physicians can restore the vagina for improved volume, appearance, sensation and functionality. ThermiVa is more than just a cosmetic procedure: satisfied patients have seen significant medical results from the procedure, including the reduction of incontinence and dryness. For even more information, read our article about the procedure.

Understanding loss of bladder control

There are several types of urinary incontinence:

  • Stress incontinence is a result of weakness in the pelvic floor muscles or changes in a women’s body due to pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause. Stress incontinence is often associated with laughing, sneezing, or other activities that increase the pressure in the abdomen.
  • Urge incontinence is caused by involuntary muscle contractions around the bladder. This involuntary action has led this condition to also be called “spastic bladder” or “overactive bladder.”
  • Mixed incontinence is a combination of stress and urge incontinence.
  • Overflow incontinence is when the bladder leaks urine. It is usually the result of a muscular problem or an obstruction.
