Walnut Hill is honored to introduce the newest member of our team, Dr. Sooyeon Choi, M.D. Dr. Choi recently completed a fellowship in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and will be taking patients full time starting in August 2017. “It’s not just a job, it’s my passion and part of my identity, and I can’t wait to open this chapter of my life,” Dr. Choi says.
Why OBGYN
“One draw as an OBGYN is that you get to form long term relationships over a person’s lifespan, and I’m excited that I’ll be able to contribute bringing life onto this earth,” Dr. Choi says.
Dr. Choi explains that her favorite part about practicing as an OBGYN is the ability to connect with people on many different levels. “It’s not just meeting the needs of a patient on a physical level, it’s meeting the emotional and mental needs as well,” Dr. Choi says. “I want to build trust and respect with my patients and also be a friend. I want them to be comfortable to approach me with things that are hard to talk about.”
Expertise in minimally invasive surgery
Dr. Choi spent an extra year practicing minimally invasive surgery developing her surgical skill set to add to the team at Walnut Hill. Minimally invasive surgeries include vaginal surgery, laparoscopic procedures, and robotic surgery. With advances in robotic surgery technology, we no longer have to do invasive incisions. We only have to make small incisions, and patients are able to get back to their normal routines much faster.
“There are so many benefits of minimally invasive surgery that people can’t deny anymore, and that is becoming the standard now in this day and age,” Dr. Choi says. “I think more and more people are going to be expected to have that as skills they can offer to patients.”
“I have great partners here that are great laparoscopic surgeons, and it’s hard to deny the many years of experience the physicians at Walnut Hill have, and I’m very fortunate that whenever I operate I’ll have someone so skilled next to me contributing and making sure everything is going well for the patient,” Dr. Choi says.

“It was a slam dunk when I got asked to join Walnut Hill,” Dr. Choi says. When I was interviewing for my fellowship, I met many physicians and staff at Texas Health Presbyterian and they told me I would be very fortunate to have all of the Walnut Hill physicians as mentors, and it was these repetitive stories and the respect people had for all the physicians that made it an easy decision.”
